Moroccan Explorer: Marrakesh

5 - Day Itinerary

Start: Marrakech | End: Marrakech, Fes, or Ouarzazate

For the curious, the active, and those who want to see the best of Morocco in less than a week.

Day 1

Once you arrive in Marrakesh, your private driver will greet you and take you to a beautiful traditional riad tucked into the old medina. After settling in, you'll meet your local guide for a relaxed walking tour.

Wander the narrow alleyways of the souks, admire the towering Koutoubia Mosque, and visit the Bahia Palace with its intricate zellige tilework. As the sun sets, you'll experience the lively energy of Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where snake charmers, musicians, and food stalls fill the evening air.

End the night with a traditional Moroccan dinner on a rooftop terrace, soaking in the sounds and colors of the city.

Overnight in Marrakesh (breakfast included)

Day 2

After breakfast, begin your journey across the High Atlas Mountains, passing Berber villages and panoramic viewpoints.

Your first main stop is the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a clay fortress used in films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You'll have time to explore the ancient pathways and climb to the top for a sweeping desert view.

Continue through the Skoura Oasis, where palm groves hide crumbling kasbahs, before reaching the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley—home to red cliffs and winding roads.

Overnight in a kasbah-style guesthouse in Dades | Dinner & breakfast included

Day 3

Wake up to fresh mountain air and a peaceful breakfast before heading toward the deep south.

You’ll stop at the towering Todra Gorge, where sheer cliffs rise up to 300 meters—perfect for a short canyon walk or photo break.

By afternoon, the landscape turns sandy as you approach the Sahara Desert. At Merzouga, you'll trade your car for a camel, and ride across the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi just in time for sunset.

Arrive at your luxury desert camp, where dinner is served under the stars, followed by Berber drumming, mint tea, and stargazing around the fire.

Overnight in a Sahara desert camp | Dinner & breakfast included

Day 4

Rise early to catch the sunrise over the dunes—a calm and breathtaking moment. After breakfast, travel toward the town of Rissani, known for its authentic market and regional products, including the best dates in Morocco.

Your drive continues through the vast Draa Valley, dotted with thousands of palm trees and hidden Berber villages.

Arrive in Ouarzazate, a peaceful desert city famous for its film studios and kasbahs. Depending on arrival time, you can visit Taourirt Kasbah or relax in your guesthouse before dinner.

Overnight in Ouarzazate | Dinner & breakfast included

Day 5

Your final day is a scenic one. After breakfast, begin your journey back to Marrakesh (or opt to continue east toward Fes, depending on your plans).

Stop for a light lunch in the mountains or one last photo in a mountain village. If returning to Marrakech, you’ll arrive in the afternoon with time to explore more, shop, or unwind in a hammam spa before your flight or hotel drop-off.
